Brexit is waarschijnlijk slecht nieuws voor het milieu en het klimaat

De precieze gevolgen zijn natuurlijk nog moeilijk te voorspellen, maar enkele commentatoren hebben al wel een poging gewaagd. Met de Brexit vallen Europese natuur- en milieubeschermingswetten, die vaak met Britse goedkeuring zijn ingevoerd vanuit Brussel, weg.

‘The Brexit vote leaves it highly uncertain which protections will remain in place and the prospect of improving them seems remote,’ schrijft Damian Carrington in The Guardian.

‘Within the next two years we will lose the best enforced nature laws in the world, which the UK did so much to help create,’ aldus Matthew Spencer, de voorzitter van de Britse Green Alliance op zijn blog.
