Wat als Afrika een kroeg was?

In mijn Twitterkringen is sinds gister een nieuwe hashtag opgedoken, waar ik geen genoeg van kan krijgen. #IfAfricaWasABar.

Het idee kwam van de Botswaanse schrijfster en satiricus Siyanda Mohutsiwa. Wat als Afrika een kroeg was, vroeg ze haar volgers op Twitter. Hoe zou die kroeg er dan uitzien? En hoe zouden de landen aan de bar zich gedragen? ‘I thought it would be a fun way for Africans to laugh at themselves and each other by putting geopolitics in a comedic light’, schreef ze gister op Twitter.

En daar heeft ze gelijk in. De ene na de andere rake grap vliegt mijn scherm op. En ondertussen leer ik van alles over hoe Afrikanen elkaar en hun eigen continent zien.

Een paar van mijn favorieten. Over de Afrikaanse grootmachten bijvoorbeeld:

#IfAfricaWasABar the bartender would apologize about the loud Nigerian table but explain that they’re the ones keeping the place in business.

#IfAfricaWasABar Kenya would be the loud "new money" drunk, telling everyone about his cousin Barack who done made it in the States.

#IfAfricaWasABar South Africans would be there every day while pretending to themselves they’re not part of it.

#IfAfricaWasABar South Africa would be pouring everyone else with champagne it bought on credit and calling it a wealthy lifestyle.

Of over het Westen:

#IfAfricaWasABar France and the US would be the bouncers extorting most of the costumers.

#IfAfricaWasABar Who would be the bartender? Europeans.

#IfAfricaWasABar a bunch of American teenagers would show up every summer to paint it.

#IfAfricaWasABar The American earnestly tries pickup lines while the Chinese guy just flashes his wallet.

Over kleinere landen:

#IfAfricaWasABar South Sudan would be that under age kid always asking for a drink.

#IfAfricaWasABar Tunesia would be that white guy trying to act ghetto.

#IfAfricaWasABar Zimbabwe would be at the entrance, negotiating.

En over Afrika in het algemeen:

#IfAfricaWasABar it would be sitting in a field full of barley, vineyard grapes and sugar for rum... but would import its drinks.

#IfAfricaWasABar the power would be out but the food would be great.

Er komen elke minuut mooie nieuwe pogingen bij, dus vermaak je op Twitter met de hashtag, of waag zelf een poging!
